Sattrans: Hello, how can I help you?
you: hello, can you help me to choose the best satellite phone option ?
Sattrans: where are you planning to use the phone?
you: i will travel with a small plane from Brazil to the USA, flying over amazon & carebbean
you: the phone will only be used in case of
you: emergency crash landing..
you: over the ocean or land...
you: i need South, central and NorthAmerica coverage
Sattrans: the only reliable option for the Americas and the waters around today is Iridium 9505a satellite phone
you: and if possible without a monthly fee
Sattrans: Iridium has global coverage anywhere on Earth and has about 98% reliability rate
Sattrans: yes, we have prepaid plans
you: is it better vs globalsatr
you: which plan should I look for ?

Sattrans: it's much better because Globalstar has a very spotty coverage and low level of reliability.
Sattrans: please visit this page and I will guide you through it: http://store.sattransusa.com/irid-pho-9505a.html
you: your iridium 75 plan is the cheapest available, is this correct ?
Sattrans: our most popular plan is the 500-min Global plan, which has 1-year validity
you: I'm looking for the lowest cost
you: once I do not intend to use it, only in absolute emergency cost
Sattrans: it has the lowest cost in terms of start up, but the calls are most expensive and has only one month of validity
you: ok, I will only use on EMERGENCY landing, as a life safety ... device
you: what's the smallest handset you have
you: lightest, in the small plane we have weight restrictions
Sattrans: the only Iridium phone which is available is Iridium 9505a
Sattrans: it weighs 375 g
you: what happens after 1 month ?
you: if I need a further one ?
you: or let's say in 1/2 year a travel do theAndes Mountains .. and want it again for 1 month
you: ?
Sattrans: after 1 month you will need to put another voucher (could 75-min again) or you can just extend the validity for $38 a month
you: ok I will browse on your website, is availability immediate ?
you: can I put a normal GSM chip
you: and use it as a US phone as well ?
Sattrans: yes, we have them in stock and can ship the next business day
Sattrans: no, Iridium is not GSM compatible but it uses a similar SIM-card
Sattrans: chip
you: so there is no way to convert it
you: as a regular phone, GSM or CDMA
you: or whathever technology ... non-statellite
Sattrans: Your number will be a global number, so it will not be a US phone... Rather, it's a global phone..
Sattrans: no, it can't be used as a regular cellular phone
you: PERFECT,
you: what's the cost of the phone ?
you: does it comes with a first month promotion or bonus ?
Sattrans: it's $1369 plus the price of voucher and shipping cost
you: is there any other technology available ?
you: with good reliability ?
Sattrans: Iridium doesn't have any promotions right now. If you purchase larger vouchers, the calling rate drops significantly.
Sattrans: Inmarsat BGAN may be seen as an alternative, but it's not really a voice terminal - it'
Sattrans: it'
Sattrans: it's data terminal with voice capability
Sattrans: and they are heavier than Iridium phones
Sattrans: the only other option is Globalstar but we don't offer them due to reliability issues you: excelent, thank you for your patience, I will check w/ someone coming to brazil and make the online purchase...
Sattrans: you're welcome.. you can also check the shipping cost by putting the phone into the shopping cart and entering your shipping address on the checkout page
Sattrans: should you have any other questions, we'll be glad to assist by email, phone or this live chat
